“Education is the manifestation of the perfection that is already in man”
As I take over the reins of DAV Public School, NIT Campus, I am reminded of Swami Vivekananda’s words immortalized for posterity, for mankind to deeply ruminate on. Every child has a very active subconscious mind, and the environment that he grows up in is as important as the pedagogy of teaching imparted in a restrictive classroom atmosphere. Schooling today must cater to the sweeping winds of change brought about by globalization and technological advances. Keeping in sync with the times, the UN advocates education for sustainable development, that allows every child to acquire knowledge, skills, attitudes and values necessary to shape a sustainable future.
Increasingly, experts in the field of education the world over are realizing the need to destress the child’s cluttered mind from the demoniac fear of failure, and instead make way for the pleasure of learning to seep into the child’s inquisitive mind, raring to embark on the path of self-discovery. Mentoring and facilitating are the buzzwords in the New Age. Parents at home and teachers in school must provide life – building, man making, and character – building assimilation of ideas so as to develop an integrated individual who can stand on his own legs today and address the problems the society at large encounters tomorrow.
The DAV Movement, with its pan-India presence, continues to make magnificent strides in education while upholding the vision, mission and values of its founding father, Swami Dayanand Saraswati. Challenges are many, but none so insurmountable that if cannot be mitigated.
“An Arya is one who strives to overcome everything
Outside as well as within oneself; seeks truth in
Everything; and fights for one’s rights and freedom.
With warm regards
